Valentine's Day

Thank you to all the parents for the Valentine's Day party!  Valentine's Day is my FAVORITE school holiday.  I adore watching students pass out valentines.  They are so sweet!  Here are a couple of pictures.

Power Tower

Here is a look at one of our literacy centers this week.

I took cups and wrote a sight word on the bottom of each cup.  The students start out with all the cups in one stack.  They quickly take turns saying the sight words.  If you get it right, you keep the cup.
At the end they use the cups to make a tower.

They were pretty excited!

Journal Writing

I would have loved to post some pics of the 100th day today.  Unfortunately our classroom was the black hole of technology today.  My iPhone kept shutting down every time I went to take a picture.  Instead I am posting some pictures of us journal writing. 
 I like the students to have a writing partner.  

• The kindergarteners first draw a picture.  
• Then they share (talk about) the picture with their partner.  
• Then the students write about their pictures. 
•  After writing is finished they work with a partner to use a rubric to check their work.

In math today we worked with a partner to find different ways to make the numbers 6 and 7 using yellow and red counters.
